Those Bravo execs are pretty smart cookies. Having nailed the reality format with shows like Top Chef and Real Housewives, they’re now trying to attract a younger demo by delivering a reality version of Gossip Girl. As you might guess, NYC Prep chronicles the lives of a group of privileged teens who rule Manhattan’s elite high school hierarchy. So now instead of Blair, Chuck and Serena, we get to watch Camille, Sebastian and Taylor bask in excess as they shop, party, date, travel and occasionally study. Of course, money can’t buy you everything and when these brats don’t get their way, the real fun begins. The must-see show of the summer.
The Goode Family
Tune in: Premieres Wednesday, May 27 at 9 p.m. on ABC
It’s rare for an animated show to air during midweek primetime but when the show’s creator is Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead, Office Space), it makes sense. Gerald and Helen Goode live by their name, always trying to save the planet and embracing veganism, recycling, activism and political correctness. Of course, things never work out quite the way they had planned…
10 Things I Hate About You
Tune in: Premieres Tuesday, July 7 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family
Inspired by the classic 1999 teen flick, 10 Things is a half-hour series following the high school hijinks of sisters Kat and Bianca Stratford, one a snarky feminist, the other a social butterfly, as they start a new year at Padua High. Good news is that the director of the original movie is on board as well as creative talent from Greek. We just hope this isn’t another 90210.
Don't Tell the Bride
Tune in: Premieres Friday, May 15 at 8 p.m. on BBC America
Imagine this: A young couple are given $20,000 to create the wedding of their dreams. The catch? The groom has to make all the decisions on his own. That’s the premise of this new reality show from the BBC, with each ep following one couple’s road to the big day; the bride’s anxious wait and the groom’s careful choices of every detail from the dress to the cake. Watch and learn.
Clean House
Tune in: Airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on The Style Network
This show has been on for a few years now but is still a satisfying staple for sick days and lazy afternoons. In each ep, host Niecy Nash and a cleanup crew invade a family’s cluttered home and convince them to sell all their junk to raise money for a home design makeover. Complete fluff but very entertaining to watch people cry about letting go of their useless crap.
