Quietly located in the Esplanade Center, there is no flashy florescent lighting to beckon you in or a line wrapped half way around the block. This place is all about chic simplicity. Ideal for first date conversation or cozy drinks with friends, it is modeled after the original Merc Bar in Soho, New York, and the dimly lit ambiance gives this dusky bar that “cool” vibe. The minimalist decor is simple yet lush with suave leather chairs, warm wood paneling and the alluring glow of table-side tea lights reflecting off of sleek slanted mirrors. A martini’s never looked better or hit us harder than at the Merc Bar. Try the house special Sophia Loren made with strawberry puree vodka and lime juice. For those of you raising your eyebrow at the $12 martini menu, worry not! It is worth every cent and one may be all you need. They also offer an extensive beer list on tap for about $6 and a tasty hors d’oeuvres menu. So sip slowly and chill out to the smooth tunes that course throughout the bar.
